Very Rare Russo Japanese Military Port Arthur Surrender Army Beer Cup

This is an antique Japanese military beer cup, decorated with a chrysanthemum branch with a butterfly, and on the back is a poem. The poem’s first two lines talk about how the Emperor and civilians were all celebrating a new year, and the second two lines about how the news of the enemy’s surrender arrives and new year was always an auspicious time. This would be in reference to Russian troops’ surrender at the end of the siege of Port Arthur – the surrender took place on January 2nd in 1905. The bottom of the cup has the words « Russia Conquest Commemoration » and the name of the phrase « Made by Kutani Hayashiya ».

The cup comes with original wooden box, with the words « Russo Japanese War Victorious Return Commemoration » « Kutani Beer Cup » on the lid, and « Kutani-ware beer cup » on the side

Condition: Mint. The box is a bit damaged
