Antique Japanese « Nell » Nippon Round the World Flight Commemorative Plate

This is an antique Japanese commemorative plate, decorated with a plane on the top, with a sun in the background and a globe in front of it centering on Japan with the country in red. This plate commemorates the first Japanese round-the-world flight. The plane is called « Nippon », which just means Japan, and is a converted Mitsubishi G3M2 Model 21 with its armaments removed. The plane is known by the allied nickname « Nell » and was used during WW2. The Nippon itself survived the war and was scrapped by the GHQ after the war. The words on the back are « Nippon » « Around the world flight completion commemoration » « Osaka Mainichi Newspaper Corporation ». The Mainichi Newspaper was the sponsor of the flight. The plane went first to North America, then South America, Africa, Europe, through the Middle East, India, and then finally back to Japan. The plate is quite large and has a string on the back that helps you hang it if that’s what you would like to do.
