Very Rare Antique Japanese WW2 1942 Navy Public Contribution « Patriot » Planes A5M Naming Commemoration Paper Weight

This is a very rare antique Japanese military paper weight, decorated with a beautiful picture of two Mitsubishi A5Ms taking off from a carrier with another ship in the background. The words on the back of the paperweight are « Contribution Planes Naming Ceremony Commemoration. » The two names are « Nagoya Controlled Goods Tobacco Sales » and « Nissin Chemistry » – these would be the entities that paid money for the construction of these two planes, which were part of a program called « Aikoku-go » or « Patriot Planes » basically. Some of these planes were paid for by public subscription, while others were paid for by companies and other patriotic entities. The insignia in the center is Noritake – the famous ceramics company that’s still around today, and the date is Showa 17th Year (1942) March 15th. This was the last year when the A5M was constructed as it was being replaced by the A6M Zero. 

Condition: Excellent – very light fainting of the blue paint along the top edge
