Very Rare Antique Japanese Union Jack Roman Alphabets Lacquer Sake Cup

This is a very rare Japanese lacquer sake cup, decorated with a pair of flags, one of which is the Union Jack. The words on top are « Return to the Country Commemoration ». Under the flags are « Ta. Shi no i. Ki ». I can’t quite figure out what that’s supposed to mean – the periods should be stop of some kind denoting different words, but I have yet to decipher its meaning. In any case, cups with the Union Jack on them are pretty rare and ones with roman alphabets are extremely scarce.
